HOW TO START FEELING HAPPY AGAIN

DISCLAIMER: I am not a mental health professional. My tips are things that have helped me in either the present or the past. If you are suffering from clinical depression for an extended period of time, speak to someone who can help or at least help you locate a professional or group that could help.

Depression is a terrible thing that affects millions of people on a continual basis. Globally more than 300 million people suffer from depression, so you are not alone by any means if you are one of them. So here are some tips and tricks to try and hopefully feel a bit better about everything.

1. Find things around you that give you comfort ~ These items could be fuzzy slippers, a favorite blanket, a pet, a mug of hot chocolate, just to name a few. Anything that might give you a warm feeling inside.

2. If you can, vent your feelings to someone you trust ~ This could be a friend, family member, even a family doctor if you feel comfortable. Sometimes just talking aloud about how you feel can be a huge help.

3. Find a creative outlet in which to express your pain ~ It doesn't matter if you feel creatively inclined; this is entirely to help yourself. Drawing, writing, sculpting etc. can be such a wonderful release.

4. Find something to be grateful for every single day ~ This sounds really lame and you almost definitely will have trouble with it at first, but it does get easier with time. It doesn't have to be really profound or even specific. Do you have a roof over your head? Then that's enough to get you started.

5. Pay it forward ~  Being online definitely gives you many opportunities to encourage others. Even just commenting "Nice photo" may make someone else's day - and yours as well. You can feel like you matter again, like you can be of help or comfort to someone else. And with over 300 million of us worldwide, there is always someone out there who needs to be in the light again as much as you do.
